The "National Certificate Level 2 - Boiler Operation" course is a package
of NZQA unit standards encompassing boiler technology, boiler operation,
boiler feedwater treatment & legislative compliance (HSE Act, RMA &
Boiler Code-of-Practice). The qualification is applicable to all
industry sectors employing steam or hot-water boilers & ensures
legislative compliance in most plants for attended (non-complex),
limited-attendance & unattended operation. Note that the 20MW
aggregate size constraint formerly associated with the Level 2 National
Certificate no longer applies. Following a recent qualification review
the operator certification recommendations are a function of the
types of boilers employed & the complexity of the installation; size
alone is no longer necessarily a determining factor.
Training is conducted over a 1-2 month timeframe utilising our award
winning, interactive CD-ROM based self-study programs. The training
program concludes with a 3-day
block course providing intensive hands-on training & competency
assessment by a NZQA qualified assessor. The CD-ROM based courses are
self-paced & make extensive use of multimedia including video, audio
narration & interactive environments. A virtual boiler room with gauge
glass, boiler management & burner control simulators provides a
realistic learning environment.
The block courses are conducted on sites with operating steam
boilers, provide trainees with exposure to a real-world environment &
are a mandatory requirement for trainees wishing to undergo competency
assessment in order to achieve formal certification. Specialist trainers
are brought in to cover specific areas where required
The training qualifies for a substantial Government sponsored
industry-training subsidy subject to approval by an approved Industry
Training Organisation (ITO). If you do not have a relationship with an
appropriate ITO, I.Q. Technology can facilitate a formal proposal &
subsidy application on your behalf.
Block courses are conducted at various locations, on-demand, throughout
the year. Candidates are required to undertake some pre-course study &
complete some written assignments prior to attending the block course so
early booking is advisable. Laptop computers are provided for the block course but for sites that are unable to provide candidates with a
multimedia computer for pre block course training (not mandatory), I.Q.
Technology can arrange a pre-loaded laptop through a leasing company for
$40 + GST per week. Note that although the CD-ROM option is strongly
recommended, sufficient text-based resources are provided for those who
prefer to study without a computer. |
